Potential Kid the next Vybz Kartel?

Dancehall artiste Potential Kidd has been getting much attention for his latest single Chicken Gravy (A Yah Suh Nice).

The artiste, who hails from Trench Town, West Kingston, believes he is destined to be a star.

"A yah suh Bob Marley come from and suh mi must have talent. A Bob Marley set it and sey di youth dem fi get fed suh dem can make money," he told The STAR.
Potential Kidd disclosed that he expected to get a lot of attention from the song because he did his research.

"Is a dance mi deh, and as mi reach mi start have a meditation because mi wanted a punchline fi guh inna di studio. Suh because the vibe (in the dance) was good, mi sey A Yah Suh Nice and mi si a girl start laugh and from that the slang gone," he said.
According to the artiste, critics have bashed the song because of the lyrics, which they claim are explicit. However, he says dancehall is a hardcore art form.
"Some people a sey the song slack but mi have a clean version that can be played on radio, other artiste duh slack song and dem bypass it. Dancehall is a ghetto thing, suh more time yu haffi guh hardcore wid it," he said.
According to Potential Kidd, the song started from his community and gradually spread to popular dances, then transcended to the radio stations.
"The first sound play it is a sound name Dutty Sound then Stone Love and Swatch International. Then mi carry it from Trench Town to Tivoli and Jungle," he continued.
"Mi reason wid Junior Gong and him sey it nuh easy fi ghetto youth buss, suh mi must burn up some CD and give them out, suh mi burn up nuff CD and start give the people and a dem play it and buss mi, now all the radio have it," he said.
Potential Kidd revealed that he has already recorded a follow-up single called Urgency produced by Natural Enterprise Production.

He also made clear his intentions of using the current attention to launch his career to the highest level.
"Mi just wah guh higher dan Chicken Gravy right now. Mi have shows next month a England suh mi just a gwaan exercise and get mi self strong fi run out pon dem," he said.
Chicken Gravy (A Ya Suh Nice) currently has over 100,000 views on YouTube.com, and according to the artiste, he is getting set to shoot a video for the single in the coming weeks.
