Vybz Kartel isn’t impressed with Popcaan’s no show

There may finally be some friction developing between the two biggest stars within the Portmore Empire following months of non-communication between them.

Breakthrough Dancehall star, Popcaan recently re-iterated during a radio that he has yet to contact his currently incarcerated mentor, Vybz Kartel since the Empire leader was arrested last September and subsequently slapped with murder, drug and obstruction of justice charges. Popcaan gave no reason for his inability to visit Kartel but has continued to pledge his loyalty to the 'Worl' Boss' and the Portmore Empire.

Now, reports have emerged that Vybz Kartel isn't impressed with Popcaan's consistent no-shows to the Horizon Remand Centre, where the self-proclaimed "Dancehall Hero" currently calls home. According to online magazine, Urban Islandz, an anonymous source close to Kartel intimates that the Empire deejay has become increasingly unhappy with Popcaan and other associates who have yet to visit him behind bars.

"Him have bigger things to focus on now, such like getting bail and the trial, but he isn't happy about a number of close associates not visiting him since being in jail,"the source said.

The source also revealed that even though Kartel understands Popcaan's increasing list of commitments, the Empire leader still feels somewhat abandoned by his lead protégé and other friends who haven't shown up to offer moral support.

"Teacha understand everyone have them career and other businesses to take care of but still, him feel like certain people abandon him because of the situation. A man can come and offer to help with any outstanding business or even just show some support," the source said.

Since Kartel's incarceration, Popcaan has vastly increased his stock within the Dancehall ranks, scoring number one hits such as Clean and Party Shot. Additionally, he's added to his international repertoire by unveiling an official remix of the smash hit, Only Man She Want, featuring Jamaican-American hip-hop superstar, Busta Rhymes and reportedly has recorded a Reggae-themed single alongside prominent American rapper, Snoop Dogg, who's in the island recording material for his new album as well as filming a documentary.

Bounty Killer's Mother DEAD...RIP Mumma Ivy

KINGSTON(Star): The music fraternity is in mourning, following the untimely death of Rodney 'Bounty Killer' Pryce's mother, Ms Ivy Williams. The name Ms Ivy is very familiar in the dancehall circles, for the most part, because Bounty Killer makes constant reference to her in song.
Bounty made the announcement on Twitter early Sunday morning, expressing his love for his mother and asking the rhetorical question 'why'?

"RIP to the world's greatest mom because she gave the world the greatest man. Ms Ivy Williams 1941-2012. Rest in peace mama, Love you more than ever and always life and death is the equation; it's inevitable and you lived an excellent life my mother, my mentor, my friend, my a whole lot of things. Why now Jah? You know what's best though!!!" Bounty Killer tweeted.

Throughout Bounty Killer's musical career he has continuously shown respect and appreciation for his mother, and has dedicated singles such as Mama on the 1990s 'Cuss Cuss' rhythm, Mama's Love and Pot Of Gold, featuring long-time friend Richie Stephens in her honour.
Bounty Killer's single Ms Ivy Last Son also gave him much attention on the dancehall circuit. The song is used in sound system clashes even today.
The STAR made attempts to reach Bounty Killer for a follow-up comment but the artiste was in no mood to talk.

Bounty Killer's business partner and manager of Alliance Next Generation (ANG), Cross Cris, revealed that Bounty Killer was in a meditative mood.

"Bounty Killer is in a pensive mood right now with the passing of his mother who he holds in very high esteem. This has hurt him deeply and it is no secret to the world that his mother was his main motivation. He is in no mood now for an interview at this moment and I, Cross Cris, would like to publicly say condolences to the entire family and hope they can stay strong during this tough time," he said.
"Mama Ivy is a deeply God-fearing woman and we all know that she is in a better place at this time," he added.
The STAR also spoke with ANG artiste Iyara, who described Ms Ivy as being a happy woman.
"Mama Ivy a one of the best mothers. She is like my other mother, she always happy, loving and caring. She always show the youth around Bounty Killer love. A she first bring mi guh a church and mi ago miss har a lot. The entire ANG family will miss her, and sincere condolences to the entire family," Iyara said.
Many local artistes also took to BlackBerry Messenger to share hearts bearing their name in celebration of Ms Ivy's life.
Some of the artistes who parti-cipated in the RIP Ms Ivy love broadcast included Mavado, Sizzla, Darrio, Khago, Kiprich, Busy Signal, Elephant Man, Beenie Man, Quick Cook, D'Angel, Inna Wi Genes Records, and Captain Barkey.
Ms Ivy was 71-years-old at the time of her passing. She had been ill for a while and died in her sleep.

Celine Dion voice 'out of service' due to virus

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Singer Celine Dion has canceled several upcoming concerts in Las Vegas because of a virus.

Caesars Palace officials say her doctor advised her to rest for a week to recover from the virus, which caused an inflammation of her vocal cords. Shows scheduled for Friday, Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday were canceled at the resort's Colosseum.
Her next scheduled concert there is March 3.
Dion, in a statement, said she doesn't "like to let people down," and she feels terrible about not being able to perform at the shows. Refunds will be given to people who bought tickets.
Caesars spent $95 million to build the Colosseum for Dion in 2003, complete with a humidifier to protect her voice.

Dion was in Jamaica recently where she performed at the Jazz & Blues festival to a record crowd and where the likes of Freddie Mcgregor did not perform after claimed that he was belittled.

Bounty Killer Rewarded

Dancehall Stalwart Bounty Killer has been nominated for this year's Boston Most Elite (MBE) Awards, which will be held on May 19, 2012 at the Champagne Hall, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. He has been given the nomination for 'Lifetime Award' for his contribution to dancehall.
This good to hear because Bounty US was taken away sometime ago. I'm not sure if he got it back but this is giving some indication that it was. Bounty who is very good at clashing always seem to play second fiddle to Beenie Man in above ground musical achievements.

Popcaan ..not Booked by Shocking Vybz

OCHO RIOS (Iriefm): Entertainer PopCaan says Creative Source is 100% in charge of all bookings.
Late last year Shocking Vibes CEO, Patrick Roberts claimed they were the official Booking Agency for the Portmore Empire deejay and that dialogue of managing artiste was in the pipeline. Gaza leader Vybz Kartel is currently behind bars after being slapped last year with a string of charges including murder.

Bounty Killer an Elephant Man hit hard times?

Some very prized properties, formerly owned by two prominent Dancehall deejays now face the prospect of being auctioned off.
Highly-valued automobiles, belonging to Alliance leader, Bounty Killer and long-time protégé, Elephant Man are on public auction by the Tax Administration of Jamaica (TAJ). Bounty Killer’s 1998 White Land Cruiser VX and his white 2006 Range Rover Sports HSE as well as Elephant Man’s red 2002 Mercedes Benz are being advertised for the second time after previously being put up last March.
All three vehicles were seized by the Inland Revenue Department after both artistes reportedly owed millions in unpaid taxes. Elephant Man had his Kingston home raided last July when law enforcement officials seized his Mercedes Benz. Two months later, Bounty Killer’s two luxury vehicles were captured by tax officials just month after his United States visa had been stripped from him. Law enforcement officials claimed he owed millions of dollars in unpaid taxes as well.According to TAJ’s Latoure Duhaney, both artistes must pay all taxes owed by this Friday should they wish to recover their assets. Else, the auction on their vehicles will commence.

Blak Ryno says Popcaan has copied his style

KINGSTON (STAR): Last year he wanted a clash, but this time around Blak Ryno says Popcaan has copied his style, flow and image.
In the song, Follow Mi Up, that was released late last month on the 'Saucey Head' rhythm, Blak Ryno made utterances suggesting that Popcaan has copied his style.
"Di bwoy run wid mi flow/ Yuh gal fren dem seh yuh waan ketch mi smile/ Yuh run wid mi plait up and a seh a neva mine/ Yuh run wid mi image and yuh a nuh mi chile/ Bwoy yuh just a follow mi up/ Mi a di original, dem a knock off man/ Yuh just a mirror mi bwoy, stop mirror mi nuh," Blak Ryno said in the song.
Despite responding to Popcaan's Nuh Box Pon Jaw with a song called Gaza Beating Stick, and even issuing a challenge for a clash at Sting in December 2011, Blak Ryno said the song was not premeditated.
"A di first vibes come to me at the studio and mi just work wid it. Wi nah walk round and look no lyrical feud wid no artiste, but wi just do di song. Wi throw the corn and if the fowl waan pick it up, him pick it up. Him copy mi, everybody can see dat man, from the plait up to the dress code. Mi a di original, him a knock off," Blak Ryno told THE STAR.
And based on the fact that Popcaan is yet to answer to any of his utterances, both in songs and interviews, Blak Ryno believes his nemesis is scared.
"Di whole Jamaica nuh see seh him fraid man," he said, laughing.
But Blak Ryno said a 'war' is not his focus now as he has a number of new releases including Wine Me, Nutty Buddy, Gwaan Pree and Rich Mi Seh, which is a collaboration with Jah Vinci. He said he is also working with producers like Onton, Seanizzle, Jordan McClure and Markus Myrie.
"Since leaving Gaza things kinda slow down but wi a try set our foundation, a try do our work from scratch," he told THE STAR, while noting that he will be heading to St Lucia next week.
Efforts by The STAR to reach Popcaan for a comment on the matter were however, unsuccessful.

Whitney Houston to be Buried Saturday

NEWARK, N.J. (AP):
Whitney Houston's funeral will be held Saturday in the church where she first showcased her singing talents as a child, her family choosing to remember her in a private service rather than in a large event at an arena. The owner of the Whigham Funeral Home said yesterday that the funeral will be held at noon at Newark's New Hope Baptist Church, which seats up to 1,500.
The family said no public memorial service is planned at this time. Officials had discussed the possibility of opening up the Prudential Centre, a major sports and entertainment venue, for a memorial, but the funeral home said it had been ruled out.
Funeral home owner Carolyn Whigham said the church service will be by invitation only, reflecting the family's decision to keep the memorial more personal.
"They have shared her for 30-some years with the city, with the state, with the world. This is their time now for their farewell," she said.
"The family thanks all the fans, the friends and the media, but this time is their private time," she said.
Houston, 48, died February 11 at a hotel in Beverly Hills, California, just hours before she was set to perform at producer Clive Davis' pre-Grammy Awards bash. Officials say she was underwater and apparently unconscious when she was pulled from a bathtub.
Police have confirmed attempts were made for 30 minutes to save the
Greatest Love of All singer after she was discovered by a member of her staff on Saturday afternoon, but she was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m.
Beverly Hills Police spokesman Lt Mark Rosen said in a press conference that hotel security responded when called but were "unable to revive her" after initiating CPR.

Vybz Kartyel gets Bail

OCHO RIOS (Iriefm): Vybz Kartel was offered bail in the sum of $40,000.00JA dollars with one or two sureties in the matter involving ganja possession.
The dancehall deejay, who will remain in custody, is also expected to surrender his travel documents. Vybz Kartel was arrested and charged for ganja possession last year after police raided a hotel in New Kingston. He’s to return to court on March 14.
Meanwhile the other charges of murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of a firearm are still pending.

Elephant Man still has to do the 'Electric Boogie'

KINGSTON (Observer): POPULAR deejay Elephant Man's electricity theft trial is scheduled to start in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on March 27
The new date was set when the flambouyant artiste, whose real name is O'neil Bryan, appeared in court recently.
Elephant Man was arrested at his home on Hillcrest Avenue in St Andrew last June and charged with abstracting electricity after a team from the Jamaica Public Service Company and the police carried out an operation in the area.
The team reportedly visited one of the apartment complex and found that one of the meters had no socket. The team, on closer inspection, said that it observed that the meter contained an illegal connection, which went directly to an apartment they said was occupied by the entertainer.
Police reported that several appliances were connected to the illegal connection reportedly found in Elephant Man's apartment.
Meanwhile, the artiste is to return to court on trial on May 21 for a preliminary enquiry into charges of rape and grievous sexual assault.

Meciless and Paul Elliot still at war

OCHO RIOS (Iriefm): Paul Elliot is threatening to take legal action against fellow entertainer Merciless if he continues to tarnish his reputation.
According to Elliot, if Merciless continues to say offensive things about him during his stage performances and in his songs he will be forced to sue the deejay for defamation of character. This ongoing saga involving Paul Elliot and Merciless started at a tribute concert for Dennis Brown where the two had a physical altercation.
Meanwhile, numerous efforts to get a comment from Merciless proved futile.

Brand New Song from Vybz Kartel - Party Me Say (Worldwide Riddim)

Vybz Kartel - Party Me Say (Worldwide Riddim)

Man angry at people knowing Kartel Mavado lyrics and not Cayman anthem

One writer was peeved at Caymanian people not standing up for their rights and being patriotic. The writer indicated his disgust at the fact that Caymanians could recite the lyrics of any given popular song of Vybz Kartel or Mavado and not the Caymanian Anthem.
The words of the writer.....
"The true Caymanian social identity is barely hanging on by a thread. If you doubt me, I'll give you a simple test. Get 10 people, 15-25 years old and ask them to recite the lyrics to our national anthem. A Vybz Kartel and a Mavado song and see which one they know word for word. Don't we see how bad it looks to know that we are importing people from 18,000 miles away to deliver pizza and pump gas?"

Mavado and Mr. Lexx delayed

MONTEGO BAY, St James (Observer)— Dancehall artistes Mavado and Mr Lexx, who both appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday on separate charges, had their cases put off.

Mavado, whose real name is David Brooks, had his case postponed until March 7. His lawyer, Martyn Thomas, told Resident Magistrate Winsome Henry that the other attorney, Christian Tavares-Finson, was unable to be present and that they requested the new date.

Allegations against Mavado are that on July 22 of last year, the complainant and his son were in a Toyota Camry along the Belmont main road when they came up on a long line of traffic and pulled off the road, which was dug up.

It's alleged that Brooks then drove up in a black Range Rover and told the complainant to move out of the way as he was not going to drive his vehicle over the stones. However, the complainant refused.

The court heard that Mavado then used the wheel of his vehicle to squeeze the man between his car door and the car, causing swelling to his foot and a cut to his shoulder.
Meanwhile, Mr Lexx, whose always seem to have a problem with Bounty Killer and who's given name is Christopher Palmer, pleaded not guilty to possession of ganja that was found in a hotel room where he was standing at the door.
His case will be mentioned on April 19.

Mavado still in trouble

Kingston (Observer):DANCEHALL artiste Mavado is to face trial today and tomorrow in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's court on charges of malicious destruction of property and assault.

Mavado, whose real name is David Brooks, was slapped with the charge July of last year.

Similar court dates were also given to the entertainer's promoter, Gregory Lindo, who is charged with perverting the course of justice and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

The allegations against the entertainer are that at about 7:00 pm on July 22, the complainant and his son were in a Toyota Camry along the Belmont main road in St James when they came upon a long line of traffic and pulled off the road.

It is alleged that a man came to the driver's door of the complainant's car, opened it then slammed it before reopening the door and proceeding to assault the man. The court heard that the man slapped the complainant in his face and kicked him in the groin.

Mavado is then said to have driven up in a black Range Rover and told the complainant to move out of the way, as he was not going to drive his vehicle over the stones, but the complainant refused.

The court heard that Mavado then used his vehicle to squeeze the man between his car door, causing swelling to his foot and a cut to his shoulder.

The court also heard that the damage to the car was about $25,000.

Up to the last appearance in court in September, the other men, who were reported with the artiste at the time of the incident and who are alleged to have assaulted a teenaged boy with a machete, were yet to be apprehended and charged.

CHITOWN MAN attacks mother OVER $10 FOR MAVADO SHOW

Mavado

NewsdzeZimbabwe; A Chitungwiza man has attacked his 60-year-old mother after she refused to give him $10 to attend the Mavado Show.
Kudakwashe Matimbe (26) of Unit D flew into a rage and grabbed her mother’s TB tablets and flushed them down the toilet. When his mother, Media Matimbe, asked where he had put the tablets, he launched onto her with fists.
He has since been jailed for six months by Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Godfrey Unzemoyo after he admitted to beating his mother .
Kudakwashe told the court that he failed to raise the money though he is a conman and a drug peddler.
Mr Unzemoyo slapped him with 10 months but set aside four months on condition of good behaviour. Mr Unzemoyo took into account that Matimbe's behaviour was outrageous because he mistreated his old mother.
"You are one of the people who need a custodial sentence since you disregard one of the Ten Commandments that you should respect your mother and father.
"It is therefore, the courts' duties to punish people like you and send out a clear message to those would-be offenders," he said.
Allegations are that on January 22 this year, Media Matimbe was asleep in her bedroom with her husband when their son stormed in demanding $10 to attend a Mavado show in the capital.
After she indicated that she did not have the money, Kudakwashe became violent, seized her purse and took her TB tablets and flushed them down the toilet.
The helpless Media woke up and met with him in the passage where she grabbed his belt demanding to know where he had placed her tablets. Irked by this, Kudakwashe floored his mother with claps and bit her on the finger.
She screamed for help and Kudakwashe's father came out to assist.
Kaudakwashe threw stones at his parents and went away shouting.

Vybz Kartel Trial set for May 8

Jamaican dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel was again remanded until May 8, when he will go to trial to answer to the charges of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Kartel is also before the court on two murder charges.

The date was scheduled this morning, when Kartel appeared before Senior RM Judith Pusey in the Half-Way Tree Resident Magistrate's Court.

Vybz Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, is charged jointly with fellow Portmore Empire artiste Vanessa Saddler, more popularly known as 'Gaza Slim' and his associate Andre Henry also known as 'Pim Pim'.
It is the first time that all three accused were appearing before the court at the same time, because co-accused Pim Pim could not be located by the police.

Both Kartel's co-accused are also to go on trial on May 8. The duo also had their bails extended.

Pim Pim, however, had the condition of surrendering his travel documents removed, because his passport cannot be located.
The charge of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice arose after it was alleged that Kartel and Gaza Slim, were a part of a plot to undermine a police investigation into the murder of Clive 'Lizard' Williams.

Kartel is accused of killing Williams.

Saddler had filed a report with the police claiming that Williams assaulted her during a robbery in Havendale, St. Andrew.
She claimed that the incident occurred on October 29, five days after Kartel was charged with William's murder.

It is alleged that Saddler and others fabricated the story to help Kartel with his defence.

Reggae Singer Luciano can go to USA

Luciano.. the man sometimes described as roots + culture is now 'free' to fly to the United States once more. The Jamaican reggae singer who was allegedly harassed on stage whilst performing in Nigeria recently were given his permit to enter the states. The soultry singer was stripped of his visa after it was alleged that he harboured a criminal.. but this was dropped due to insufficient evidence.
