Vybz not stabbed again

Observer KINGSTON, Jamaica - Vybz Kartel's business associate Michael Dawson, has refuted claims that the artiste was stabbed during a prison brawl at the Horizon Remand Centre on Tuesday and that he is soliciting funds to pay his lawyers.
Reports surfaced that the artiste was engaged in a fight on Tuesday night with another inmate when he was stabbed.
But in a press release issued Thursday, Dawson said that there was no truth to the reports.
"It has come to our attention that there are several rumours being circulated about Adidja Palmer, better known as Vybz Kartel, regarding a stabbing incident at the Horizon Adult Remand Centre.
"These rumours are false," he said.
"No such incident has been reported. No records of a fight in which he was involved, has been reported," an officer at the Remand Centre confirmed Thursday.
Dawson also said that unscrupulous individuals have been using Kartel's name in an attempt to scam money from the public.
He said that scammers have been contacting other artistes and fans claiming that Kartel needed contributions for his lawyers' fees.
It was reported earlier this week that scammers were contacting people via Blackberry Messenger claiming to be Vybz Kartel and asking for money.
"We believe that these rumours were created to further attempt to defame Mr Palmer and frustrate his family and close associates," he said. "Remedy will be sought to the full extent of the law," Dawson added.

Scammers Imitate Vybz Kartel

According to reports in the media recently A DANCEHALL producer is warning entertainers not to send any money to an individual proclaiming to be Vybz Kartel or a representative of the incarcerated deejay.

According to Elvis Redwood, people have been scamming entertainers claiming that they are Vybz Kartel and are requesting large sums of money to contribute to his lawyer fees.

Redwood says at least two recording artists have already received such requests from Vybz Kartel impersonators, however, only one fell victim to the scheme thus far.

"Scammers are contacting people saying that they are Vybz Kartel and they want money. They are contacting artistes and even fans claiming that they need contribution to pay the lawyer fees," he said.

The So Unique Records producer says he was only made aware of the scamming issue when one artist contacted him, making a query about the payment of Vybz Kartel's lawyer fees.

"The artist sent $50,000 at first and then he was to send another $70,000, but he made contact with me first, and that was how the artist discovered that he was being scammed," the producer said.

"I told him straight up that I don't know of that, because Vybz Kartel is a proud person, so there is no way he would be involved in such a thing."

Redwood is encouraging others that may have been targeted by the scammers to report the matter to the police as soon as possible.

The producer also shared a blackberry pin on his Facebook page which he says people should not add because it was being used by the alleged scammers.

"I just want to make it clear that Vybz Kartel's lawyer fees are quite okay and he is not soliciting money from any individual for assistance.

"He doesn't even have a phone so that's absurd ... If anybody add on blackberry messenger under the name Vybz Kartel, delete them."

Jay Z and Beyonce went to Cuba Violating Restrictions?

jAY-Z and Beyonce in Cuba
CNN’s Kevin Liptak
(CNN) РTwo Republican lawmakers are asking a government agency to look into a recent trip to Cuba by Beyonc̩ and Jay-Z, suggesting the superstar couple violated restrictions on travel to the communist island.

“Despite the clear prohibition against tourism in Cuba, numerous press reports described the couple’s trip as tourism, and the Castro regime touted it as such in its propaganda,” Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Mario Diaz-Balart, both of Florida, wrote in the letter to the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z were photographed in Havana last week, apparently celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary on the island. While Cuba was a popular getaway for Americans in the 1950s, spending money there was outlawed after Fidel Castro took power in 1959.

In 2012 the Obama administration lifted some of the restrictions on travel to Cuba, instituting a “people-to-people” travel program that requires a strict itinerary for vacationers.

“Each traveler must have a full-time schedule of educational exchange activities that will result in meaningful interaction between the travelers and individuals in Cuba,” U.S. Treasury Department guidelines read.

Americans have been known to get around travel restrictions to Cuba in the past by stopping first in a country with flights to the island. Cuban customs officials are familiar enough with the practice to not stamp American passports when they cross their desks.

In their letter the Treasury Department, Ros-Lehtinen and Diaz-Balart noted their connection to “a community of many who have been deeply and personally harmed by the Castro regime’s atrocities, including former political prisoners and the families of murdered innocents.”

“The restrictions on tourism travel are common-sense measures meant to prevent U.S. dollars from supporting a murderous regime that opposes U.S. security interests at every turn and which ruthlessly suppresses the most basic liberties of speech, assembly, and belief,” they wrote. “We support the Cuban people by refusing to sustain their jailers.”
