Rastas Questions Snoop Dogg Authenticity

KINGSTON, STAR: Members of the Rastafarian community have criticised Snoop Lion (formerly Snoop Dogg), alleging that the rapper turned reggae artiste is not sincere in his conversion to the Rastafarian movement.

According to the anti-Snoop Lion Rastafarians, the hip-hop icon has failed to meet the contractual, moral and verbal commitments of the Rastafarian community.

The questions about Snoop Lion's authenticity became a concern to some Rastafarians after the rapper released a premiere of his upcoming documentary called Reincarnated, which depicts his conversion to Rastafarianism. However, members of the Rastafarian community in Jamaica allege that Snoop Lion is only seeking to make a profit off the Rastafarian culture.

According to Rastafarian and former member of the Third World band, Michael 'Ibo' Cooper, who has been a member of the Rastafarian community since 1972, Snoop Lion should not be judged by other humans, because the Almighty is the ultimate judge. He also questioned the need for a Rastafarian contract.

"I don't know of people having financial contract to the Almighty. The only person who Snoop has to answer to is the Almighty and I say that without apology. We are a post-Christ philosophy so we can't judge people. As a matter of fact, some of his very critics are not living the required life either. So I don't think we should be judging others. We must allow man and woman to embrace consciousness," Ibo said.

He also shared a lesson he learnt from Bob Marley with The STAR. "I asked Bob Marley once what he thought about some Rastas who were wearing the colours but were not true to the movement, and Bob Marley said to me, 'At least the consciousness a touch dem', so that is one of the reason I respect Bob, so in this case at least the consciousness is touching Snoop Lion," Ibo Cooper said.

"If Snoop tries to manipulate the Almighty he will find himself in problems with the Almighty. But not in the court of man or having to pay a fine, no sah. That is between Snoop and the Almighty, I cyah judge no man. I embrace Snoop as a brother, but if him nuh sincere that is his and the Almighty business," Ibo Cooper concluded.

Iron Balloons and Titanium Balloons of 2012

According to reports Chase Cross outclassed other nominees such as K-Queens, Dosa Medicine and Bridgez to secure the 'iron balloon' title of the year 2012. Despite being in the industry for some time, 'rap-singing' in an American accent, being part of Mavado's Gully Squad and dissing Bounty Killer in a song, Chase Cross is yet to get his big break.
To be fair really, no one knows who are K-Queens and Dosa Medicine... which implies that if Chase Cross is a iron balloon then K-Queens and Dosa Medecine are Titanium ballons. At least Chase had a tune that was popular..."Better Days" nothing can be said about the other candidates...

Hope for Buju Banton on possible juror error

Gleaner: The American News Network Tampa Bay Online is reporting that a federal judge is expanding his investigation into possible juror misconduct in the drug trial of reggae star Buju Banton.

US District Judge James Moody this morning ordered US Marshals to seize computers belonging to jury foreperson Terri Wright, to allow a defense expert to look for evidence of Internet research conducted during the trial.

Banton, whose real name is Mark Myrie, is serving a 10-year prison sentence on two drug charges.

The Grammy winner faces an additional five years on a related gun possession charge, but his resentencing hearing was postponed to investigate the report of juror misconduct.

During a telephone conference on Wednesday, Judge Moody also told lawyers that he plans to subpoena more jurors and conduct another hearing into allegations that Wright violated his orders not to do outside research during the trial.

Wright told a reporter for a South Florida newspaper that she researched the case, apparently during the trial.

However, she testified that she only researched Banton's music and the federal Pinkerton rule, which involves liability among conspirators for the actions of other conspirators.

Male Fan hug Popcaan then beaten Popcaan hit with bottle in Zimbabwe

HARARE – It's official. The Raving King of dancehall Popcaan thrilled revellers with a scintillating performance at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) just after midnight yesterday.
The Jamaican ushered his Zimbabwean fans into 2013 with most of his hits leaving the crowd spellbound.
Popcaan came onto the stage a little after 12 midnight and every song he performed ignited frenzy among the crowd and he managed to maintain it throughout his entire act.
The song that had the crowd jumping was his opening song System on the much popular Loudspeaker Riddim produced by the New York-based Dre Skull.
The-24-year-old then started to dig into his wide catalogue to bring out some of his early hits like Fake Friend, Dream and New Year.
Popcaan and the fans were in sync and the more he gave, the better it was received and given back to him tenfold.

Clarks has been one of the biggest tunes in Zimbabwe since it was released in 2010, and Popcaan got full marks from the crowd.
Midway through the Jamaican's act, an overzealous reveller jumped onto the stage and tried to hug the raving king and all hell broke loose.
An equally overzealous security guard moved in and pushed the man onto the floor and started assaulting him with a baton.
Popcaan at Zimbabwe gig New Year's eve

Within a space of few seconds, the man was badly injured and bleeding from the forehead when the police finally moved in to stop the brutal assault.
This did not go down well with Popcaan and the rest of the crowd who felt there was no need for such brutality on a fan who was just trying to get closer to his star.
Popcaan then started shouting on the mic: "Please stop beating up my fan!"
Bottles and empty cans started raining in from the upper deck as fans showed their disapproval to the way the security handled the situation.
Unfortunately, one of the missiles struck Popcaan on his right forehand and the Jamaican had to run to the back stage to seek cover.
After a brief stoppage, the situation was back to normal and Popcaan, who had not been seriously hurt by the missile, returned to the stage and continued with his show.

Sean Paul being sued for $80 due to erection problems amongs other things

Sean Paul and Jilted Lover Lady Ms Persson?

A jilted lover is suing Grammy Award-winning reggae artist Sean Paul in New York for $80 million — and taking intimate revenge in the process — claiming he had her illegally deported from Jamaica and drove her to attempt suicide.

Susanne Persson, a busty blonde from Sweden, said Paul “bribed Jamaican police” to oust her from the country in June 2010, the suit claims.

The documents, filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, include an illustrated, self-written, 120-page tell-all that promises on its cover to allegedly expose: “The Truth About Sean Paul’s Cocaine Dealings, Lies, Murders and Erection Problems.”

The work, titled “Irie Jamboree: My life in Jamaica as a jet set slave with the enormous secret of a love affair with Jamaica’s perhaps most well known Dancehall Artist,” has a childishly hand-drawn cover depicting Persson in a blue sari and Paul with his signature Mohawk.

“Ever since [Paul] started using cocaine regularly, he has had severe erection problems. If it lasts one minute, it is a good day,” Persson alleges in the 11-chapter work, which she submitted as a supporting document to her self-filed lawsuit.

Persson included her American Airlines itinerary from Kingston, Jamaica, to Stockholm, Sweden, on June 24, in the court filing. Headline Entertainment, Paul’s promotion company, made the reservation, according to the receipt. Immigration authorities forced her to board the plane, the lawsuit claims.

It’s filed in New York because Paul’s record label, Atlantic, is based here

Reached in Jamaica, Paul’s lawyer denied the deportation allegations.

“He would not have the power to do that,” said attorney Tom Taveres-Finson.

The day before Persson was allegedly booted from the country, she claims she attempted suicide. “I had tried to kill myself, losing more than one liter of blood from a cut on my wrist,” she wrote in the court filing. “I had shown the pictures of the cuts to Sean over the Internet. I feel he should see what he had caused.”

Persson said the singer, who turns 40 next week and whose hits include “She Doesn’t Mind” and “Get Busy,” ruined her life.

He subjected her to “starvation, homelessness, repeated suicide attempts, loss of ability to generate income,” the complaint alleges.

Persson did not return calls for comment.

In the exhibit to her filing, she brags about her “long, blonde Barbie hair” and “E-cup bra” size, claiming Paul took hundreds of nude photos of her “obtained under the pretext of a future marriage.” A jilted lover is suing Grammy Award-winning reggae artist Sean Paul in New York for $80 million — and taking intimate revenge in the process — claiming he had her illegally deported from Jamaica and drove her to attempt suicide.
