Breakthrough Dancehall star, Popcaan recently re-iterated during a radio that he has yet to contact his currently incarcerated mentor, Vybz Kartel since the Empire leader was arrested last September and subsequently slapped with murder, drug and obstruction of justice charges. Popcaan gave no reason for his inability to visit Kartel but has continued to pledge his loyalty to the 'Worl' Boss' and the Portmore Empire.
Now, reports have emerged that Vybz Kartel isn't impressed with Popcaan's consistent no-shows to the Horizon Remand Centre, where the self-proclaimed "Dancehall Hero" currently calls home. According to online magazine, Urban Islandz, an anonymous source close to Kartel intimates that the Empire deejay has become increasingly unhappy with Popcaan and other associates who have yet to visit him behind bars.
"Him have bigger things to focus on now, such like getting bail and the trial, but he isn't happy about a number of close associates not visiting him since being in jail,"the source said.
The source also revealed that even though Kartel understands Popcaan's increasing list of commitments, the Empire leader still feels somewhat abandoned by his lead protégé and other friends who haven't shown up to offer moral support.
"Teacha understand everyone have them career and other businesses to take care of but still, him feel like certain people abandon him because of the situation. A man can come and offer to help with any outstanding business or even just show some support," the source said.
Since Kartel's incarceration, Popcaan has vastly increased his stock within the Dancehall ranks, scoring number one hits such as Clean and Party Shot. Additionally, he's added to his international repertoire by unveiling an official remix of the smash hit, Only Man She Want, featuring Jamaican-American hip-hop superstar, Busta Rhymes and reportedly has recorded a Reggae-themed single alongside prominent American rapper, Snoop Dogg, who's in the island recording material for his new album as well as filming a documentary.
