Vybz Kartel tries to get out of Jail after being Hospitalized

It a recent media report it was indicated that another bail application for the incarcerated dancehall entertainer, Vybz Kartel in relation to the Clive 'Lizard' Williams murder case has been denied.

The bail application was made by his attorney Tom Tavres-Finson in the Home Circuit Court this afternoon.

Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer and the five other men are accused of murdering Williams at Kartel's home in Havendale, St Andrew on August 16, 2011.

The application was turned down following arguments that Kartel is a flight risk.

The prosecution also argued that the accused could attempt to pervert the course of justice if granted bail.

Williams was allegedly beaten to death in August 2011 over the disappearance of an illegal gun.

They are to return to the Home Circuit Court on November 18 when their trial will begin.

Kartel has been in custody since September 2011.

Vybz Kartel sick to death DJ rushed to Hospital

Embattled dancehall recording artiste, Adijah 'Vybz Kartel' Palmer, was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital earlier this morning after reportedly complaining about chest pains.

Patients visiting the hospital flocked to a section of the institution to get a glimpse of the self-proclaimed 'World Boss'.

Kartel was dressed in an orange T-shirt, a pair of washed-out jeans pants and orange shoes.

He was also sporting ''a freaked-out hair style'', said one man.

After leaving the hospital building in handcuffs, Kartel was whisked away in a grey Nissan police motor vehicle.

The Gleaner has been informed that Kartel was taken to the X-ray department of the hospital.

Junior Reid furthers Career while sons struggle Parties with Jay Z

One of Jamaicas top Reggae icon Junior Reid was a special guest at Jay Z’s Club 40/40’s 10^th Anniversary on June 17 in New York City according to media reports.  Junior Reid father of the former duo Wadda and Andrew Blood was blinded by the paparazzi during the red carpet but had a great attitude saying “One Blood, Jamaica’s in the house.”.... apparently these days though Andrew and Wadda are not so much in the oneness of the blood with the now solo acts persued by the brothers.

Inside the club paparazzi followed Junior Reid around and got shots of him with Jay Z, Fabulous, Meek Mill in the roped off VIP section. .. however the rport did not mention whether the Blood brothers were there.

Junior was reported as saying ...“The party was off the chain, it was slamming.  I had a good time at the party. I’ve been to the club before, it’s one of my favorite spots in NYC.  It’s been a while since I have been in the hip hop scene and it was good reconnecting and working on some collaborations” .

Junior Reid just returned to Jamaica for a show in Portland on the 29^th of June, Reggae to Reggae, but will be off again to Atlanta for a show on July 6 and then off to NYC for a show on July 19.   He has a busy summer schedule with international shows but says “I will be in Jamaica as mush as possible this summer.  I’m working long hours in the studio on my new album” says Reid.

Buju Banton almost freed

US federal judge today threw out a 2011 gun conviction against reggae star Buju Banton.

The decision means that Banton, whose given name is Mark Myrie, will have his 15 year sentence reduced to 10 years for now.

Meanwhile, Judge James Moody has told the government to bring a criminal contempt charge against a juror who helped send him to prison.

Banton's legal team had sought a new trial following the disclosure that a juror, Terri Wright, had conducted an internet research on aspects of the case during the trial.

Today, Judge Moody concluded that Wright did independent research during Banton's February 2011 trial and then discussed her findings with other jurors, behavior that came to light after she did a newspaper interview in October 2012.

She could face a fine and up to six months in prison if found guilty of contempt

According to a report by The Tampa Bay Times, Banton's attorney Chokwe Lumumba said afterward that he appreciated Judge Moody's decision on the gun charge but he didn't think the judge went far enough.

"I thought he should have thrown out the whole case," Lumumba said.

Bounty Killer and Popcaaan are Now Friends

In a recent report in the star news paper it was indicated that Although Popcaan pledged his allegiance to his former mentor Vybz Kartel, the dancehall artiste has buried the hatchet and has reconciled with iconic dancehall artiste Bounty Killer a natural enemy of the now defunct Gaza Empire.

Bounty Killer celebrated his 41st birthday last weekend at Sugarman Beach in Portmore, St Catherine which was alleged to have been flopped in reports earlier this week. It was during selector Boom Boom's set that the surprise came.

"Him (Popcaan) deh Canada pon tour and him send a voicenote to him sister and tell him sister fi mek sure mi get the song. Mi mek the link wid har and she burn it off pon a CD and mi just premiere it at the party," Boom Boom said.

In the voicenote, Popcaan said, "Yuh done know a Popcaan a represent fi Bounty Killer the legendary. Yuh done know today a yuh special day so mi just waan seh on behalf of me and the Unruly Gang, big up yuh damn self." This was followed by an a capella version of one of his songs, Party Non Stop.

Bounty Killer told THE WEEKEND STAR that he was surprised by the birthday greeting.

"I was a bit surprised but it touched everybody. I went to his birthday party at the Quad too so there is a mutual understanding," Bounty Killer said.

The Warlord went on to say that he is now more focused on music and less on war.

"My earlier days was fighting against who I didn't like. Now in my later days, it's all about uniting with the people. I care zero about haters," he said.

Although speculation has been rampant that Popcaan has joined Bounty Killer's Alliance Next Generation (ANG) camp, Bounty Killer refuted these claims.

With an arsenal of new hits under his belt, including a recent collab with I-Octane, Bounty Killer told THE WEEKEND STAR that is now focused on positivity in the music.

"Everything that is great and positive is up with me from here onwards. Fans can look out for new tracks, albums, videos and tours. I'm also focusing on the development of my 'young gaads' artistes, producers, musicians and selectors. Greatness and beyond mi say. Alliance for life," the deejay said.

Capleton Attacked on Stage - Twice at reggae in the Hills - see video

Jamaican hardcore DJ Capleton the fireman was recently attacked while performing on stage at a show called Reggae in The Hills in the United States. The fireman was in his set when what appear to be a white hippy looking man jumped up on stage and assaulted the DJ.
It can be seen in the video @ 1:48 the drunk looking hippie guy came on stage and pushed Capleton, he was quickly tackled off stage. But that was not the end of the it, the same hippie came back on stage @ about 3:53 and attacked Capleton once again ...it appeared that he was trying to wrestle the microphone from Capleton but stage security came to the rescue of the DJ and gave the Hippie "One rass claat shubb" off the stage. The hippie was pushed of the stage sending him flying in the crowd to their delight. The rastaman/security that pushed him stood there for a few seconds to make sure that this hippie gets the message.
Through all of this Capleton managed to keep the show going..

Vybz Kartel has Prosecutor second case suffers setback

It was reported today in the media that the second murder trial of entertainer Vybz Kartel again failed to get underway in the Home Circuit court today.

The trial could not proceed because of the unavailability of prosecutors.
The matter has since been rescheduled to July 8.

The attorneys in the case have complained that the accused have been before the court for more than a year and that this is the fifth time the matter has been put off.

Kartel, whose given name is Adijah Palmer, and co-accused Lenburgh McDonald and Nigel Thompson are on trial in relation to the killing of St Catherine businessman Barrington 'Bossy' Burton.

The police say Burton was murdered while he was standing with friends along Walker's Avenue in Gregory Park, St Catherine in July 2011.

Kartel and his co-accused were charged in October 2011.

No way out for Vybz Kartel and Shawn Storm

It was reported in the media today that Kartel was further remanded in 'Lizard' murder case.

Dancehall entertainer, Vybz Kartel and three of his five co-accused in the murder of Clive 'Lizard' Williams were today remanded when they appeared in the Home Circuit Court.

The five co-accused are Shawn Campbell, popularly known as Shawn Storm, fashion designer Calvin Haye, Andre St John, and Kahira Jones and Shane Williams.

Haye's bail was extended while Williams was offered bail in the sum of $500,000 with sureties.

The accused have been ordered to return to the Home Circuit Court on November 18 when their trial will begin.

Attorney-at-law Tom Tavares Finson who is representing Kartel in commenting on the long delay in having a trial said the prosecution to do the right thing and ask the judge to grant Kartel bail.

But Senior deputy director of public prosecutions Jeremy Taylor in opposing bail referred to the seriousness of the offence in respect to both Kartel and Campbell.

Toots gets mad and starts to sue after blow to the head

According to recent reports Toots Hibbert of the legendary reggae band Toots and the Maytals is suing his former manager for $1.25 million US dollars.

Andrea Davis, publicist for Toots Hibbert tells Music News that the law suit was filed over the singer’s publishing. According to Davis, Toots said he was taken advantage of.
the lawsuit claims that Toots was fooled into signing an agreement which gave his former manager 50 per cent ownership of his songs. Toots Hibbert is asking for US$1.25 mil in damages as well as full ownership of rights to his songs.
It’s been a rough few weeks for Toots who was recently hit by a patron with a vodka bottle during his stage performance in Virginia. Andrea Davis tells Music News that the incident has left the singer with some issues but he’s in good spirits nonetheless.

As a result of the incident, Toots received 5 stitches to the head and was forced to stop his Acoustic Tour of the United States canceling dates in Maryland, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
